The City of Lake Lotawana is a beautiful lake community located SE of the Kansas City Metro. Incorporated in 1958 Lake Lotawana is the largest private lake in the Kansas City area. The lake is 480 acres of surface water with 27 miles of shoreline. According to the 2010 Census there are 1939 residents within the city limits.
Lake Lotawana is a wonderful city with small town characteristics but still close to big city life. It offers a enjoyable time through its unique restaurants, civic organizations, churches, sporting events and all the fun a big lake can offer. And if you're in the market for something different, Lake Lotawana's central location makes it only a short drive to Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Kansas City, and Independence. We are THE only lake that is within 30 minutes of Kansas City that enjoy not only sailing regattas but also speed boating, ice boating, pontoon boating, kyaking, canoeing, water skiing, tubing, swimming, fish tournaments and more. No other lake can claim this variety of diverse options for all Lake Association members to enjoy.
The City of Lake Lotawana is a Fourth Class City which has a Mayor/Aldermen form of government. The Mayor and six elected Aldermen serve two-year non-compensated terms.
The City is responsible for the sewer system, and all roadways that are not around the physical lake. The roads around the physical lake are overseen by the Lake Association. The City is also responsible for the Police Department and Municipal Court, and is responsible for the Planning & Zoning codes for both residential and commercial development. The City Hall staff also handles annual Pet Licensing.
There are two fire protection districts, the Southern Jackson County Fire Protection District and the Lone Jack Fire Protection District which serves the city.
